George Cregg was born July 4, 1846 in State of New York, died June 20, 1917, Linesville. He married Isabel B. Briggs, April 17, 1872; to this union was born eight children five of whom survive. He was a member of Co. A. 1st Regt. Provisional Penna mounted infantry, enlisting Feb. 16, 1865, to serve one year or during the war - his honorable discharge dates from July 13, 1865 at Clouds Mills, Va. He is survived by wife, sons, William Frank, Henry, daughters, Mrs. Anna Rider and Grace, and two sisters - Mrs. Sarah Wallace and Mrs. Rachel Bullis, one brother John Cregg. The funeral was held Friday at Baptist church, conducted by Rev. Mr. Dwyer. Interment in Linesville cemetery.

Commander - it is our sad duty to report to you that Comrade George Cregg, a late member of Company A. of Pa. Cavalry during the war of the Rebellion, and who was a tried, true and faithful member of Linesville Post, No. 352, Department of Penna., GAR was on June 20, 1917, called by our Great Commander to the Grand Army above.
Wherefore We your Committee, in testimony of his loyalty to his country when her glorious principles of freedom were assailed; of his private character as a citizen, and as a true and loyal member of the Grand Army of the Republic, recommend that a copy of these expressions of our regard for the fallen Comrade be sent to his family.
