Died |
2 Nov 1910 |
Gehrton, Crawford County, Pennsylvania, USA |
- cause of death: general dropsy
- from the November 9, 1910 issue of the Linesville Herald:
The funeral of Rev. A. B. Day who died at his home near Gehrton, Nov. 2d, 1910, aged 70 years, was held in the Methodist church, Linesville, Friday, attended by G.A.R. and I.O.O.F. and friends. He leaves a wife, two daughters and three sons. Deceased was a member of the Greenville conference Evangelical church and the funeral sermon was preached by Rev. Bartlett, the Presiding Elder of Franklin district. He took for his text II Timothy 4:7,8, "I have fought a good fight, etc." He first reviewed the life of Rev. Day both as to his services in the Civil War and as to his service in the church. Then referring to his text, he spoke of the struggle of life and of the reward that comes to the victor. He said that God never planned failure for man but always success. If it does not come out that way the fault is with man. He showed that Rev. Day had fought the good fight, finished his course, had kept the faith, and that now a crown awaits him and he is gone to possess it. Rev. Miles, of Greenville, who had charge of the services then made a few remarks, in which he spoke of his relation with Rev. Day. The other preachers present were the pastors of the first and second Evangelical churches, of Franklin, Rev. Plannette, Rev. Hampe, Rev. Carr. The I.O.O.F. had charge at the Linesville cemetery where interment was made.
