James R. Stewart
LINESVILLE - James R. Stewart, 83, of Linesville, passed away Friday, Feb. 25, 2011 at UPMC Horizon Hospital in Greenville after a period of declining health.
Born Oct. 18, 1927, he was a son of Robert and Irene Shellito Stewart. He married Dorothy M. Wolfey in Alexander, N.Y., on June 10, 1950, and have since resided on the Stewart Farm where they raised their five children.
In 1945, he graduated from Linesville High School where he played basketball and won a county league championship. He served our country in the US Navy aboard the USS Randolph from 1946 to 1948.
He was the oldest member of the Linesville Presbyterian Church.
Jim was a lifetime dairy farmer on the family farm, now North Shore Dairy LLC, which started in 1921 by Fred B. Stewart and is being currently operated by the fourth generation sons. He operated the farm under the Robert N. Stewart and Son Dairy Farm and James R. Stewart and Sons Dairy Farm. In more recent years, he truly enjoyed overseeing the operations on the family farm.
For 36 years, he served as a Pine Township supervisor and donated land where the municipal building was dedicated in honor of him. He was a lifetime member and past commander of Linesville American Legion, Post 462, and a lifetime member of Linesville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7842, and the Pymatuning Sportsman's Club. He was a loyal lifelong Democrat.
Jim enjoyed bowling, country music pet dogs, the Lawrence Welk television show, reading the newspaper and hunting in his younger years. He loved relaxing on his side porch watching cars go by and overseeing activities in Pine Township. He cherished spending time with his children and grandchildren and enjoyed watching them in school and sporting activities. He enjoyed socializing with friends and had a quick wit and a great sense of humor that everyone loved.
Survivors include his loving wife of 60 years, Dorothy Stewart; five children, David Stewart and his wife, Debbie of Linesville, Kathy Wielobob and her husband, Jeff, of Conneaut Lake, Paul Stewart and his wife, Lisa of Linesville, Thomas Stewart and his wife, Caroline, of Linesville, and John Stewart and his companion, Caren Stutzman, of Linesville; five grandchildren, Adam Wielobob and his wife, Jody of Meadville, Jana Wielobob and her fiance, Travis Laird, of Beachwood, Ohio, Paula Stewart of Port Charlotte, Fla., Anthony Stewart of Linesville, and Amanda Stewart of Linesville; three sisters, Shirley King and her husband, Fred, of Brookville, Jane McDermott of Linesville and Lakeland, Fla., and Sue Mika and her husband, Regis, of Longmont, Colo.; one brother, Fred Steart of Linesville; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother-in-law, Philip McDermot.
Calling hours will be Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. at Royal-Coleman Funeral Home, 6028 US Highway 6, Linesville.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Linesville Presbyterian Church, 206 Erie St., in downtown Linesville, with the Rev. Bryan J. Powell of the church officiating.
Military honors will be provided after the service by Huidekoper Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2006.
