  	Our Francis enlisted in Company A of the 18th New York Cavalry February 8, 1864 at Pierrepont, St. Lawrence County, New York - and was mustered in the same day as a Private. At that time he was noted to be a farmer with blue eyes, brown hair and a fair complexion, and was 5' 9" tall. He was promoted to Corporal December 24, 1864 and was mustered out with his unit at Victoria, Texas, on May 31, 1866.
