He enlisted in the Army Air Corp sometime around 1934. He had basic training at Langley Field, then Private Anderson was transferred to Chicago, Illinois, where he completed a course in radio instruction - which he passed with high honors on January 24, 1937. Four days later, he and was returning to Langley Field when the plane he was in crashed into the mountains near Front Royal, Va. John had extensive burns and other injuries, and died at Walter Reed Hospital on February 17, 1937.

John Wallace Anderson
John Wallace Anderson, aged 31 years of Greenville, died at 8 a.m Wednesday, Feb. 17, 1937, in the Walter Reed hospital, Washington, D.C., of burns and injuries received in the crash of a U.S. Army airplane Jan. 28, near Front Royal, Va.
The son of James O. and Jennie Norton Anderson, he was born Nov. 15, 1905, in 36 Elm street here, and had graduated from Penn High School in the class of 1924. Mr. Anderson was a member of the United Presbyterian church.
Two and a half years ago he enlisted in the Army air service and spent his first year at Langley field, near Washington. He later was transferred to Chicago where he completed a course in radio instruction Jan. 24, four days before his fatal return flight to Washington. Mr. Anderson had passed his radio examinations with high honors.
He leaves his mother, Mrs. Jennie Anderson; three brothers, Charles of Mansfield, O., James of Scotia, N.Y., and Emery; a sister, Mrs. Marie Schaible, Greenville, and a nephew, Dan Schaible, Jr.
The body arrived today from Washington and has been removed to the Baird funeral home, where services at 3:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 19, will be conducted by Rev. J. Russell Dugan. Burial will be in the Linesville cemetery.
The casket will remain closed.
