Charles enlisted in the U.S. Army June 20, 1916 at Pittsburgh. He served in Battery E of the 107th Field Artillery. He was promoted to Sergeant July 15, 1917. Staff Sergeant Amsler left the US May 18, 1918 aboard the Saturnia and served overseas from May 18, 1918 until January 19, 1919.
He was wounded in the right arm on October 3, 1918 and received the Purple Heart. Was honorably discharged at Camp Sherman, Ohio, on February 26, 1919.
Military engagements: Argonne, Chateau Thierry.

Charles Amsler
Charles Amsler, 80, of Linesville died Wednesday, April 13, 1966, at the Veterans Administration Hospital, Erie, following an illness of seven years.
A son of Jacob and Katherine Amsler, he was born Dec. 20, 1885, at Wilkinsburg and had lived in the Linesville area since 1942.
Mr. Amsler was a retired carpenter. Serving with the 107th Field Artillery during World War I, he was wounded in action. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Eagles Lodge and junior Mechanics of America, all of Wilkinsburg.
He is survived by his widow, the former Dora Skidmore.
Friends may call today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Thurman M. Houghton Funeral Home, Linesville, where services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Robert Thawley of Linesville Pilgrim Holiness Church officiating. Interment will be at Linesville Cemetery.
