Harold D. (Hack) Akens
Harold D. Akens, 84, 114 E. Lagoon St., Melbourne, Fla., formerly of Linesville, died of natural causes Friday, March 2, 1979.
He was born in Padanaram, Ohio, Feb. 26, 1895, a son of David M. and Hattie Thompson Akens. He formerly was married to Katherine Stratton, who died in 1936, and to Margaret Rose Hirtner, who died in 1965. He subsequently married Mary B. Akens, Melbourne.
Akens was a Linesville postmaster from 1935 to 1965. He attended the Linesville Universalist Church, was the first commander of Linesville American Legion, served in the U.S. Army during World War I and was a past member of the Linesville Volunteer Fire Department.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Louise Buck, Columbus, Ohio, and Jeanette Forrest, LaMarque, Texas; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Following cremation in Melbourne, Linesville American Legion will conduct memorial services Saturday, March 10, at 1 p.m. at the William H. Houghton Funeral Home, Linesville. Interment will be at Linesville Cemetery.
